For Alex McFee, our recently promoted Engineering Manager, the excitement lies in the sheer variety of projects. "From custom mechanisms to complex structural challenges and fully integrated machines with controls - every day brings something new," Alex shares. This dynamic environment keeps his work fresh, engaging, and constantly evolving.
One of Alex’s most memorable projects at Entech exemplifies the balance between imagination and practicality. He recalls, "One recent challenge involved transforming something that had only ever existed on a set into a permanent outdoor feature - durable enough to survive Florida’s harsh climate, yet imaginative enough to stay true to the vision." Striking that balance between fantasy and function proved to be both challenging and deeply rewarding.
Alex’s approach to engineering reflects his thoughtful planning and commitment to client satisfaction. A key philosophy he follows is designing with serviceability in mind. "We aim to make our systems easy to install, commission, and maintain - not just for us, but for our clients and the technicians who will work with the equipment long-term," Alex explains. By anticipating potential challenges, such as access or component clashes, he ensures every design is practical, reliable, and user-friendly.
Outside of work, Alex applies the same precision and creativity to his hobbies. He enjoys cutting and polishing gemstones, a passion that combines his love of minerals with his engineering mindset. "Faceting machines are marvels of precision that I can truly geek out over," Alex says. The meticulous process requires patience, focus, and attention to detail -- skills that also drive his professional success. When he’s not in his studio, Alex enjoys kayaking along the Indian River or exploring nature with his wife and their pug. This blend of technical expertise and a love for the outdoors reflects the curiosity and dedication Alex brings to every aspect of his life, whether at work or at play.
